Summer long weekends bring very high volumes of traffic through the Town of Shelburne. Shelburne Police officers were out on the roadways enforcing the Highway Traffic Act to encourage safe driving habits.
In total, Shelburne Police laid 101 Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Act, Compulsary Automobile Insurance Act, Criminal Code, and Controlled Drug and Substance Act charges.
The majority of the Highway Traffic Act charges were for speeding, but included stop sign infractions, pedestrian crossover infractions, document infractions, seatbelt infractions, cellphone infractions, and heavy truck infractions. One person was charged with no insurance.
A careless driving charge was laid in a collision on Owen Sound Street.
Four people were charged with Possession of Marijuana after the drug was found in vehicles.
One vehicle stop resulted in a man being arrested after he tried to hide his real identity by impersonating another family member. As a result he faces 5 criminal charges and 1 highway traffic act charge: Obstruct Police Officer, Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, Driving While Disqualified, Driving While Under Suspension, and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance. He was assigned a first appearance court date in mid-September to answer to these allegations.
Shelburne Police reminds all motorists to be patient, remove all distractions, and make safety the priority when driving at all times.
