Background Check Shelburne PoliceAn increasing number of agencies, particularly those involved with the supervision of vulnerable persons which include children, disadvantaged or the elderly, are seeking assistance of the police agencies in the Province of Ontario to provide a level of security clearance for new employees and volunteers.

Criminal Record Checks required for employment, Visas or Pardon Requests will cost $25.00. Applicants who wish a volunteer check must pay $10.00. Additional copies are $5.00 each and you must fill out another original application per copy. You must provide the name of the agency you are volunteering with. The Shelburne Police service will only provide Vulnerable Sector checks for the residents of the Town of Shelburne, however will still provide Criminal Record Checks for truck drivers, etc. for anyone.

Two forms of valid identification will be required, preferably a birth certificate and a drivers’s licence or passport.

Payment may be made in cash or Interac. No personal cheques will be accepted.

An applicant will complete the required forms, which will be processed and left at the front desk of the Shelburne Police Station to be picked up. In most instances, the police record check will be completed within two – five working days.

Applicants must produce two pieces of valid (i.e. not expired) identification that confirm his/her name, date of birth and address. One piece of identification presented must include a photo. Ontario Health card cannot be accepted for identification purposes (Health Cards and Numbers Control Act, 1991 section 2.2(1)). The following is a list of items that could be considered acceptable forms of identification.

Basic Criminal Record Search for Employment Purposes:

This search is for individuals who will be employed in the following fields; general labour, truck driving, warehouse, retail, immigration, etc. It is not intended for individuals seeking a volunteer and/or employment position with children (persons under 18 years of age), the elderly sick or infirm.

Criminal Record Checks include:

Criminal convictions (summary and indictable) from CPIC and/or local databases. The Criminal Record Search is based upon photo identification and therefore is not confirmed by fingerprints. The completed check indicating the results of the criminal record search, shall include the Corporate Seal of the Shelburne Police Service as proof of authenticity.

Police Information Check

This search is for individuals who will be employed in the following fields: superintendents of buildings, kinship, adoption, boarder crossing, visa’s etc.

Police Information Checks will include:

Criminal convictions (summary and indictable) from CPIC and/or local databases. Outstanding entries-charges, warrants, judicial orders, Peace Bonds, probation and prohibition orders. Absolute and Conditional discharges from local database only, Family court restraining orders, charged and processed by Diversion released as Police Contact only, dispositions including but not limited to Withdrawn, dismissed and cases of Not Criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder, a review of all available police contacts including but not limited to theft, weapons, sex offence, or violent, harmful and threatening behaviour.

Vulnerable Sector Check

This search is for individuals who will be employed/working in vulnerable positions but is not limited to children (persons under 18 years of age), the physically disabled, the intellectually disabled and the elderly such as: boy scouts, girl guides, meals on wheels, boys and girls clubs, teachers, coaches, school secretaries, nurses, etc. Applicants must be a resident of Shelburne and shall provide proof of Shelburne residency.

Vulnerable Sector Checks include:

Criminal convictions (summary and indictable) from CPIC and/or local databases. Outstanding entries-charges, warrants, judicial orders, Peace Bonds, probation and prohibition orders. Absolute and Conditional discharges from local databases only, Family Court restraining orders, charged and processed by Diversion released as Police Contact only, dispositions including but not limited to Withdrawn, dismissed and cases of Not Criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder, a review of all available police contacts including but not limited to theft, weapons, sex offence, or violent, harmful and threatening behaviour which may or may not have involved a mental health incident, all pardoned criminal convictions including non sex offences identified as a result of a VW query.

Record Check for Pardon Purposes

A Local Police Records Check for pardon purposes is required from where you currently live and from every place you have lived within the past five years. This check must be completed by the police that have jurisdiction in each of these areas. A Local Police Records check that is dated more than six months ago will NOT be accepted.

The Pardon application booklets are available at the Shelburne Police Station at no charge or you may access the forms on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Website.

The fee for the local police records check for the Pardon process is $20.00. Fees are payable by case or Interac.

Contractor Record Check

This search is for contractors who will be required to work within the Shelburne Police Service building located at 203 Main Street East Shelburne, Ontario

There will be no fee for this check.
