Man Driving With Toddler Charged With Impaired

Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday December 13th) concerned citizens called 9-1-1 when they suspected a man driving while intoxicated.

Shelburne Police officers located the vehicle and driver in question, driving on Owen Sound Street. Police stopped the vehicle and launched an investigation.

Officers not only suspected the driver of driving while under the influence of alcohol, but located a toddler in the car not secured in a car seat. The driver provided breath samples at the Shelburne Police Station which indicate he had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

As a result of this investigation, 34 year old Adam MILNE of Shelburne is charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Drive Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Alcohol, and Fail to Ensure Toddler Properly Secured. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear with a first appearance court date in early January to answer to the allegations.

“Clearly this driver was a danger to everyone’s safety on the road, including the toddler in his car. The immediate call to 9-1-1 by the citizen who was concerned and the quick response by our officers may have prevented a much more serious situation”, states Sgt. Neumann. “We encourage everyone to pick up the phone and call police right away if they have concerns about someone’s ability to drive safely. Calling 9-1-1 is appropriate anytime there are immediate safety concerns.”

If anyone has any information in relation to this case or any other matter, they are encouraged to contact the Shelburne Police Service at 519-925-3312 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com.
