Shelburne Police is out in full force for this year’s Festive R.I.D.E. programs. Officers are busy on weekends, and weekdays conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks throughout the town. The purpose of R.I.D.E. is to help prevent drinking and driving, as well charging anyone caught drinking and driving over the legal limit. The Festive R.I.D.E. initiative will continue through to the first week of January.
The immediate consequences of drinking and driving can include instant licence suspensions for up to 90 days and immediate vehicle impoundment for 7 days, not to mention being arrested and charged criminally.
Upon conviction of impaired or over 80, the driver can face further licence suspensions, jail time, hefty fines, and a criminal record.
Those are the legal consequences. Further drinking and driving can result in collisions, property damage, injuries, and even death. This could affect you, your loved ones, or someone else’s loved ones.
Shelburne Police encourages everyone to make the smarter and safer choice of not drinking and driving. “There are so many options to avoid drinking and driving: arrange a designated driver, call a cab, call a family member or friend, walk home, stay the night, stay at a friend’s home, book a hotel or motel – just don’t drink and drive”, stated Constable Paul Neumann.
