Shelburne Police Promoting Spring Lock-It-Or-Lose-It Campaign

“It is that time of year where thefts from vehicles, sheds, and garages tend to increase, and we are reminding everyone to lock-it-or-lose it”, states PC Paul Neumann.  “Typically criminals go after easy targets.  That’s why the vast majority of thefts occur from unlocked cars, sheds or garages.  It is not very common that we get reports about locked cars being broken into.”

Here are some tips to help reduce the chance of becoming a victim:

  1. Lock your vehicles at all times, at home, at work, when shopping
  2. Lock your sheds and garages
  3. Keep valuables out of sight including wallets, purses, cellphones, GPS units, tools

“Please call police immediately when anything suspicious is seen or heard.  Often a quick response by police can prevent property crime from occurring.  If an incident did occur, a quick response by police may assist in quickly identifying the culprits, added PC Neumann.  “We are ready to respond 24 hours a day, every day.  Don’t hesitate to call any time of day or night.”

New this year, Shelburne Police is distributing “Lock-it-or-lose-it” mugs to local coffee shops and breakfast restaurants.  “When customers are having their morning coffees, they will be reminded to “lock-it-or-lose-it.”
